New car models due in 2018

Our good friends over at MTA WA have been doing some digging into new car models being released this year.

Here is what you can expect – in a nutshell – Enjoy!

Just released/Due to be released:

Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV: The fastest production SUV to lap the Nürburgring. Alfa Romeo is making a sports-car comeback after the release of it’s equally rapid-fire Giulia QV.

Aston Martin Vantage, Aston Martin Vanquish S (Ultimate) & Bentley Bentayga, Aston Martin DB11 Volante: These completely different vehicles have been combined on this list to reduce eye strain for the baby-boomers who can afford them.

Audi A6: Audi’s further refined sedan, updated with the latest corporate fascia and tech upgrades. The in-cabin noise is so tranquil that you won’t hear your golf clubs rolling around the boot.

Audi A7: The four-door coupe sector is growing (despite the ironic name); Audi have done a good job with the update and it can almost drive itself in top-spec. Though, given how well it drives, you won’t want it to.

Audi A8: Audi’s 7-Series/S-Class competitor showcases some amazing technology – watch this space for the innovations that will be in mainstream vehicles tomorrow.

Audi RS4 Avant: The ultimate Yallingup tourer. A 2.9 Litre Twin-Turbo AWD Wagon that is .2 seconds shy of the ‘3 second club’, launching to 100km/h in 4.1 seconds.

Audi RS5 Sportback: A5 is great. S5 is awesome. RS5 is phenomenal. You’re now an expert.

BMW i8 Roadster: Worthwhile looking into to the full design and engineering story to appreciate just what the i8 is about; the stats alone don’t do the engineering justice. A great machine.

BMW M2 Competition: 20kg lighter due to carbon fibre, in case you don’t have 20kg to lose yourself. An improvement on an already incredible car.

BMW M3 CS: Noted by BMW as “the most powerful standard production vehicle of all time in the M3 range”. This makes it pretty significant.

BMW M5 Competition: North Korea have given up missile productions, but Germany haven’t.

BMW X2: An edgy addition to the BMW line up, note the Badge on the C-Pillar. Reminds us of the iconic BMW M1.

BMW X3 M40i: The sleek new X3 with a guts transplant for more speed.

BMW X4: BMW created the “Sports Activity Coupe” segment with the X6. Mercedes-Benz entered the fray. Now BMW’s second-gen X4 ups the stakes. Can you keep up?

BMW X7: Press road test reviews are occurring now in the USA, this could make it to Australian shores in late 2018.

Chevrolet Camaro 2SS: There won’t be a manual in Australia, but there will be an answer to the Mustang, with 600nm of torque and a 9-speaker Bose sound system; Inside or out, you know it will sound incredible.

Chevrolet Silverado: Putting the engineering skillsets of HSV toward right hand drive implementation of this beast. Perfect for the grey/silver/tinted nomads who need more towing capacity than the dominant 4×4 ute range in Australia.

Citroen C4 Cactus: The C4 Cactus is quirky, fun and you’ll definitely attract some attention.

Ferrari Portofino: The California-T was often branded as the “poor man’s Ferrari”, however we would never employ such terminology ourselves. Luckily, the Portofino will make any man, woman or child look healthily prosperous.  The 441kw/760nm 3.9 Litre twin-turbo V8 sips a claimed 10.7L/100km. Essentially pays for itself at those numbers…

Fiat 500X: The style-conscious cousin to the Jeep Renegade gets an upgrade.

Ford Endura: With a recent 5-Year warranty announcement, the Endura promises to be tech-loaded and represents a move to a more sophisticated styling direction for Ford Australia.

Ford Focus: Looks fantastic and couldn’t come at a better time – there’s a lot of expectations riding on this car. Cue the RS model for Hot-hatch fanatics (There are a lot).

Ford Mustang: The new exhaust note and its snout alone are reason enough to buy one.

Ford Ranger Raptor: This is one of the most hotly anticipated arrivals of 2018. It’s not about straight-line speed, it’s about the ability to take it anywhere, take flight and land on the gravity defying Fox-Racing shocks.

Genesis G70 and Genesis G80: You won’t be able to ignore the Genesis G70 when it arrives. Stinger GT DNA with solid luxury credentials. G80 would be great in V8, pretty please.

Holden Acadia: American style square-ish design adds some variety to the 7 seat SUV sector. If you want something more comfortable than the ute-based SUV’s you’ll want to try this.

Holden Equinox Diesel variant: With 100kw, 320nm and a 6 Speed Auto, the new Equinox has an extra engine option.

Hyundai iMax & iLoad: New grilles, front fascia, interior enhancements and some price revisions. Love the captain’s chair in the iMax.

Hyundai Ioniq: Hyundai are working hard to adcance EV options in Australia. Available in Hybrid (now), Plug-In Hyrbid (shortly) and Full EV (soon). Hopefully the full line up will be here by the end of the year. An option for every taste.

Hyundai Kona EV: If this makes it into 2018, expect EV’s to become rapidly more ‘mainstream’ than they currently are. The Kia Niro on the same platform provides a style alternative.

Hyundai Santa Fe: The cascading grille and headlights make this much loved SUV a very premium looking unit.

Hyundai Tucson (Mid-life refresh): Sharp front-end redesign looks good in photos. Sure to be a seller.

Hyundai Veloster: Details are scarce, but it’s completely possible that we’ll get the Veloster – N after Hyundai Australia indicated their intention to add to the N line. Or maybe the i30 Fastback in N-spec.

Infiniti QX50: A luxury-sports SUV that has a host of firsts, not least of all its turbocharging technology. A car like this should be on your test-drive list if you’re thinking of a luxury mid-sized SUV.

Infiniti QX80: If 90% of your driving isn’t towing or off road, but you want the capability when the time comes – this stacks up as a great luxury alternative to the Germans with a solid, naturally aspirated 5.6 Litre V8. 0-100km/h in the 7’s. It’s a plush leather couch with a V8 attached.

Jaguar I-Pace: Jaguar proving that “range-anxiety” may soon become a term for the history books.

Jaguar XJ50: XJ Jag short wheelbase version. For the rock star who loves to park in standard bays.

Jeep Cherokee: Jeep made a bold move with the last Cherokee (well done for trying something different) but this update is milder, will appeal to many given the popularity of the segment.

Jeep Wrangler: Supply willing, you’ll be seeing the JL Wrangler here, with some great styling cues, new engine options and tech to bring it into the 21st century.

Kia Cerato: What will you be doing in 7 years? Presumably not dealing with warranty headaches if you buy one of these. A great looker, too.

Kia Sportage: (mid-cycle update): Spy shots indicate a revised grille, headlamp assembly and minor rear changes. “Mild hybrid” system provides stop/start power generation support.

Lamborghini Urus: An SUV that’s also the cheapest way to get into the current Lamborghini range. Not a bad proposition. Traditionalists will turn their nose at the fact that it’s turbocharged, but the super-sports segment will most likely love it. As will everyone who sees it.

Lexus ES: Like everything Lexus, meticulously designed and engineered for comfort, smooth performance and longevity. Unlike most mid-sized sedans, it’s got shape and form.

Lexus GS F & RC F – “Limited editions”: Probably the most under-rated vehicles in their classes. With engines developed by Yamaha and being the last remaining naturally aspirated V8 in their respective fields, these limited editions may find themselves a loyal fan base.

Mazda 6: Premium interior and tech additions, the option of a 2.5 Litre “Dynamic-pressure” Turbocharged petrol engine, which is the first of its type. Exterior upgraded to remain fresh, but no radical changes.

Mazda BT-50: Exclusive Australian-only modifications including ‘bolder’ front bumper, upgraded infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. Good list of accessories available too.

Mazda CX-8: Similar size to the CX9 but the Diesel will no doubt be the persuasion point for most purchasers versus its CX9 sibling.

Mercedes-AMG C63 (update): Did you know that Australia is the biggest market for AMG vehicles per capita? Mercedes-Benz does. That’s why you’ll be seeing a lot of these. New 9-Speed transmission and an updated adaptive suspension tune included.

Mercedes-AMG GLC 63: Looks fast even when its stationary. Neck brace sold separately.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class: Air-craft engine a/c vents, more screens than a graphic designer’s office. Tech heads will love it. A big upgrade from the current model.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Overall shape remains, tech overhaul and engines to be announced.

Mercedes-Benz CLS: The car that created a segment has been updated, complete with inverted tail lights.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class: They’ve ditched the leaf-springs and retained the off-road credentials. Now a bona-fide Mercedes-Benz luxury ride.

Mercedes-Benz S Class – Coupe & Cabriolet:  Remember the CL-Class Mercedes? Think of this as 2018’s answer to it…and then some. With end to end advances in engineering and 66 OLED tail lights to admire if you’re waiting behind one at the lights.

Mercedes-Benz X350d: The segment has been aching for more 6 cylinder diesel options. Mercedes have come to the table.

Nissan Leaf/Renault Zoe: Can you hear that sound? Probably not. These zero emission EV’s are so quiet, your wife/husband will never really know what time you got home last night.

Porsche 718 GTS Boxster and Cayman: Forming its own cult following and providing more than just a cut-price 911 alternative.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Handles bends like a yoga instructor. Essentially a track car that happens to be legal on our roads, if you’re brave enough.

Porsche Cayenne: How something this big can propel itself at this pace defies physics. Spec really depends on the limit of your imagination.

Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo: With more rear headroom than the standard Panamera, the Sport Turismo range offers up to 500kw of (Hybrid-assisted) power. That’s 125kw per passenger.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan: The SUV you’ll likely see The Queen, The British PM or Conor McGregor in. Expected to be a bestseller, unless Kyle Sandilands leases one.

Skoda Fabia: Skoda work hard to provide a point-of-difference in the small car segment. Add to your research list.

Skoda Karoq: A compact SUV on the MQB platform with a great base price, could see growth for the Skoda brand.

Subaru Forester: Unveiled at the New York Motor Show, a staple in the Subaru range. May make an appearance in Q4 of 2019.

Toyota Corolla: The first ‘genuinely’ European-looking Corolla is sure to be a sales hit when it arrives Q3 2018.

Volkswagen Amarok V6: Not to be outdone, VW have upped the torque to 580nm and power has been worked to a tempting 190kw. Most powerful in its class.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: VW have given the Tiguan the boot. Not literally, they’ve added flexible interior space and 2 extra seats to the popular Tiguan range in this ‘long wheelbase’ version.

Volvo XC40: A new Volvo crossover SUV model, designed with youthful appeal and named “European Car of the Year”.
